I would not want to be Karl Rove at 8 AM tomorrow. Because he failed.

He failed miserably.

Given how Bush deals with failure, Rove might have to remove a stapler from his face.

You can't have an uncaged animal roam free and then make excuses when they bite someone. The White House moved way too slowly to deal with this, and then didn't realize how insanely damaging it would be for the Republicans

Iraq

Bush's refusal to change course and his insisting on mentioning Iraq in the last week of the campaign was dooming Republicans who might have squeeked through were punished. Indiana lost three GOP seats. The bloodbath was driven by Iraq.

Losing the base

Clearly, the GOP outreach program failed widely. They contacted people, who then voted to dump Republicans. Rove play to the base strategy fell apart when moderates went elsewhere. But then, they lost their fundie base as well.
